I've got Falkens on my Rover 12". I can't really complain they have lasted for ages but are crap in the wet, torque steer, spinning whells when changing gears even at realitively sedate speeds.

I had bridgestones on my other mini 10" wheels and just got some Dunlop D93J and OH MY GOD do they grip, it will be interesting to see how quickly they wear though.

I have had Yokohamas on previous cars, in particular A008's and they were great, gripped well and weared reasonably well.

My 2c.

I found the length of time that Falkens last to be a hindrance as you just wanted them to wear out so you could buy something else!

This is my problem at the moment, hard to get WAF for Yoko's when there's so much tread left on the Falkens..

$2000 a tyre??? they were $160each plus $20 freight each. $720 is worth it when they will last me for years/decades.

Actually there is still some mould bits still on em. They are over a year old though.

I just got a pair of Hankooks when the car went for it's pink slip, about $90-something each (145/70 R12).

http://www.hankooktyre.com.au/v2/products/product_detail.asp?search=pcr&id=1094

I think that they are the Centum K702 and so far i've been very impressed. Although that's coming from a low point of having el cheapo 'Roadstone' tyres on since i bought the car - just like the Falkens they were useless in even the slightest wet or greasy conditions. I'm so happy to be rid of them...

I've only had the car out once in the rain since and i deliberately tested their grip and in comparison it was like night and day, no wheelspins or skidding, just the surefooted handling i remember from having Pirellis on my first mini back in the UK.

As i said it might be early days but i'm happy so far...

Unless I'm very much mistaken, it's 145mm x 70% = 101.5mm

sorry i missed the sizing at the end of the first line..duh

145 will perform better in the rain because it's thinner..

I'd call them cheese cutters though

Only if the wider tyres are less efficient at displacing water. Assuming they're the same compound, if they're able to shift enough water you still get more rubber on the road, which means better traction.

Cheese cutters they are, though ;)

All things being equal a thinner tyre has a smaller contact patch - therefore a smaller amount of water to displace to come in contact with the road. A thinner tyre will resist aquaplaning thana wider tire. If they are both able to shift enough water - then yes wider better - but science says the wider tyre will aquaplane first..correct?
