No 539s to be found any more. I know because I have tried to get some from Bob Jane's and they phoned Yokohama and were told none in Oz and no more to come.

I also have a mate in the tyre business and he couldn't get any either and says that 12" tires are hard to get now unless you go to the semi slick ones.

There's a 12" semi slick?

I think he may have a set at the moment...

I remember seeing some nice semi-slick tread in a pile on a shelf..

Probably referring to the A048R.

The A539 has been replaced by this:
http://www.yokohama.com.au/ourtyres/tyre.aspx?tyreid=66

The smallest they do is a 14" now.

I have never used the Bridgestones, but i would imagine them to be better than the other two - though whether they are worth importing off your own back is another story.

How about you explain what the car is going to be used for and your driving style? all that matters is you get a tire to suit - not what is 'best' ;)

Josh,

Dont forget to throw Dunlop into the mix.

Russell Stucky of Stuckey's Tyre Service can provide any tyre in the Dunlop range.

http://www.stuckey.com.au/

For instance, he imported my SP9000's from Japan - and does so regularly.

Thought it might help to throw another tyre manufacturer into the mix.

Cheers,
Tricky

This is the response I got from Yokohama re a539s. :(

The A539 was a great tyre. It has been discontinued and most of the sizes replaced by the C.drive which is the tyre the A539 evolved into. The bad news is that not all the sizes were continued in the C.drive. The only 12 inch tyre we make is a 165/55R12 R-spec race tyre which is available from Yokohama motorsport dealers.

No worries, though really it's quite simple for your choice

Cheap Daily Driver Tyres:
- Sime's - from what i can see these would be the Monza HR7 - no comment but they would fall somewhere close to the falkens and in this sort of performance level i would get whatever is cheaper.
- Falken's - They are average in the dry and poor in the wet - but you can't beat them for wear and they dont look too bad to boot. - Get if you don't plan to drive in wet weather and want long lasting tires.
- Yokohama A048R - Road Legal race slick - ~$220ea - ~10,000km use - awesome grip both wet and dry, expensive.
- Dunlop D01J - Similar to A048R

OKAY i bought some tyres only got two as i will try them out before lashing out.
By the way if you are looking for a cheap tyre on the similar level as the Falken go for the Sime as MiniMad quoted, and yes they are heaps cheaper in comparison.
