On a V8, the cam is hanging in the breeze, just like an A series. All ours gets is splash lube from the crank and rods.

So what you are trying to say is that I should rev my car hard to splash lots of oil around and adequately lubricate the camshaft?

I am using a Shell Helix oil, but I have always just gone for a base 20W50 oil (usually the cheapest one I can find). The only problem I have is worn syncros on 2nd gear, so it won't go into second easily until it warms up. Changing oil could fix or improve this, but I can live with it.

Put Edge in today with new filter. Can't wait to see what the result is. :D

i found a 10-40 helped a bit with the synchro as its not taking as long to push the oil out of the way

I have the same problem. I've run HPR30 and GTX2 (this was an accident..) in my 998 since Christmas, and neither have made cold-changes into second any nicer.

That said, the HPR30 is kinder than the thinner GTX2. If anyone has an oil they recommend for shagged syncros... :)
