Well there's 4 weeks till Watto's Grand Day Out and we're starting to get ready for the drive down.

What should I take on the trip to cover the unforseen that may happen. Obviously cant take spaers for everything but would like to cover some things. Obviously will take:

Spare Water
Spare Fuel
Gaffa Tape
Electrical Tape
Fan Belt
Fuses
Globes

What else? I'd prefer reasonable answers but I know some of you won't be able to help yourselves.

Assuming you are taking the toolbox then radiator hoses.
Actually the more bits you cram into the car the less likely you are to have a break down.

Grease
More than one 1/2" spanner
Spare wheel nuts
Lots of CDs
Cable ties: lots of them
WD40
Clean rags

About to change that as it now operates in steps, but will take a spare as well.

Spare Wheel, Jack, Wheel Brace etc are all there (normally so didn't mention them).

Brake Fluid & Spare Oil too of course.

My theory is the more you take the more likely that the car will have problems dragging aroung a boot load of ballast.
Take some wire (coat hanger style) and pliers, if you need to fix exhaust mounts on the way it is handy to have some wire (you can usually find wire on a farmers fence but they get annoyed if the sheep get out)

I just did a big road trip in my wifes Ford Telstar (1988 2.2 auto, it was free when I worked at a wrecker) I took oil, water, coolant, brake fluid, degreaser, silicone spray, windscreen cleaner, WD40, washer additive, plumbers tape, cloth duct tape, insulation tape, thin tie wire, thick tie wire, metric tools, screwdrivers, a file, rope, paper towel, hand cleaner, rags, etc.
I only used half a litre of oil and the windscreen cleaner and rags.

points, condenser, coil, leads, plugs you never know when 'Lucas' will pop in for a visit I'll echo the money, I have an old taxi coin dispenser full at all times good for tolls and stuff

I work on the theory that whatever I don't take with me, is what I'll need... so when I do a long trip, I take EVERYTHING

well... everything in the way of tools at least, but one of the most important things to take with you is an NRMA membership - it's a get out of jail free card - even if the person who comes to help you doesn't know one end of a screwdriver from the other, at least they're likely to have said screwdriver, some bits and bobs, and will give you a tow if you need it

I had RACV tow me home from the supermarket a couple of months ago when my starter motor shat itself - I rang them, and they sent a truck... too easy

Ya big baby. I drove my LS around without a starter for a week while I was getting it re-built. You just give it a push and jump in.
