just wondering what a 1275 engine and gearbox weigh approx

Depends on fluids, and ancillaries, but think in the 150 kg area.

Around there , a complete front subframe and engine is a smidge over 200kgs so work backwards from there depending on what you take off (subframe , suspension and brakes around 45 kg , radiator and coolant , anciliaries etc .....) .

If you're trying to work out how strong something will be to lift the engine out remember to at least triple (preferably quadruple) the expected weight to allow for safety , a safe working load as assigned to a lifter for example is around 4 X the weight it can handle without breaking but exceed the weight safe weight limit at your own peril .

i stuck my engine on the scales just out of interest with no accesories or manifolds and it weighed in at 137 exacttly because it straight away said "you have gained 20 something kilos", are dads always fat
