Hi
Just wondering if its possible to import an old mini from Japan to Australia

Why??? cos it's very cheap over here in Japan, I'm on holidays here and saw a lot of mini's going for a very very tempting price.

Please advise regarding Importation Law as I'm not sure if I can import/export one as the minis were available in Australia

Any advise would be great

Thanks

Moving this to Mini Chat. It will get more exposure there than in the New MINI forum.

When I first started looking at minis and how I'd get one, I looked at all the importing options.
In short, It probably isn't worth the hassle of the paperwork and all the stuff that has to be done
to the car both before it leaves and after it arrives (eg, de gassing and steam cleaning in japan,
Compliance in Aus).
A rough price guess of ten grand just for the import, and government fees wouldn't be far off a starting point.

Off curiosity, what's a '98 cooper worth in japan, converted to AUD?

Yep, it should be up to 1990 now, since it's based on a 15 year rule.
I heard they're tryin to make it 30.

Rumour is that the fifteen year old rule is about to cease...
They are trying to slow down the amount of cars coming in...
especially skylines, sylvia etc...
