Planing to set up a molasses bath for some sub frame parts and suspension parts.
Just wondering about ratios other people have used?, I'm planning 1 liter of Mol to 10 liters of water.
What would happen if I put in some alloy suspension trumpets?

I think that's what I used...

the molasses only eats up rust, the trumpets wouldn't be rusty, just grubby, but I'd say theres a good chance they'd get eaten up too...

I used 25% 1 part molasses and 3 parts water. Put it somewhere where the spills don't matter and the drips off the parts when getting them to the wash area afterwards don't leave a trail. - there is truth in the ditty "Molasses Molasses , sticky sticky goo Molasses Molasses always sticks to you "

Don't put alloy in it. Or anything greasy. It's a rust remover, but just won't work with greasy stuff.

I know someone who used an old sink for this, too bad it had an alloy drain plug. One day it got eaten and it all dumped out... :!:

Mine is in one of the plastic bins on wheels with a lid (45Litre?) Another one with diesel in it for parts washing sits on top of it and the both get pushed away in a corner when not in use and pulled out when needed.

Depending on how bad the rust is, try to get it as thick as you can (ie, use hot water and add very little to the molassas as possible. Hot water will make the stuff flow easy without having to thin it too much.

Surely there must be a better way to do subframes than in molassas! that's a LOT of molassas...

Just remember to keep it away from investigating dogs and spray some surface spray insecticide around the outside of the container . We had one set up a few years ago (1 in 4 from memory) and the tiny black ants found it , moved it and sprayed around it but then it was in the dogs reach and he was partial to mollases . We used to have a 44 gallon drum of it with a tap on it so we could use it for livestock . Took a while to figure out why the tap was always spotlessly clean , the dog was licking it all the time .

Started the bath today but it seems a bit thin :? (1:10) might thicken it up in a few days to 1:5.
I'm also going to go the "harsh chemical" route with another set of the same parts and see how quickly, easy and costly each way will be.
Both sets will be finished in POR15 chassis black ($105/Liter, ouch) so I think I'll go the POR products with the 2nd set.
I'll try and keep yous posted with how it all goes :)
