OK, so I ended up going the Supercrap option, $20 Chinese dual air horns, and you know what, they're not half bad. Scares the crap out of the kids, anyway

interesting..... the horn on my cooper is rubbish, I can barely hear it, let alone the knob I'm trying to tell not to be dumb

what's the reaction time like, can you notice a delay after you push the button?

can you do a friendly "toot toot" with it?

It's pretty fast, in the order of 100ms or so. And while they're pretty loud and angry with a decent blast, you can hit them quickly a couple of times for a "seeya" :D

They were rubbish when I tested them without the relay, it makes such a huge difference. In the end I managed to mount them without needing to drill any more holes, happy with that 8)

Ok so I do own a Moke, but you know that stupid square non streamlined bonnet has its uses!
My truck air horn fits across from one inside guard just clears the opposite headlight tub, air tank and compressor in one of the side boxes, and a strange cable near my right knee LOL, and yes it does say get the *@^!% out of my way!

I know what you need Simon.

You need one of those 'Woop, Woop, Woop' sirens they have on destroyers.

I can see it now 'Woop, Woop - I'm going to battle stations you a/hole, so get outta my way!'

Perhaps also some red fluro's inside the car to illuminate with the horn..

Horns mounted under the guard are likely to be peppered with all kinds of road debris which could break them. They will also be sprayed with water from the tyre when it rains, not good treatment for an electrical device. They'd really be better off in the engine bay.

They're plastic, and very flexible. Stone impacts aren't likely to do much. Even if they did break, $20 buys a replacement set ;)

They're also not electrical, they're air powered ;) The compressor is inside the engine bay, and it's just air hose running to the horns. There's no room inside the engine bay anyway.. not if you want to be able to access things without having to dismantle half the car first.
