Rather than acting on the door lock mechanism, someone hereabouts has a pair of solenoid pistons mounted in the rear side pockets which fire through the B-pillar into a hole in the door. Simple, and effective.. might think about doing this one myself ;)

Nice innovation, i think i will just have to cut a some of the door panel and if the the motor still doesnt fit then mod the door card. Actually my door is off at the moment im putting new hinges on. the top bolt was so hard to unwind i ended up angle grinding the hinge off.

Sounds dodgier than it is i didnt need the hinge because the pin fell out and i only just found a ratchet piece to fit.

If it fits there than that would be much better i was just worried there would not be enough room. Do you have any pics of the finished set up?

Probably something like this... it was just a test... haven't got around to permanently putting it in.

I mounted mine on the other end of the door and clamped the actuator rod onto the external lock rod. Mount them upside down and reverse the wire polarity and it keeps the rod in the right place. Did not require any cutting or grinding of the door. Was probably a bit trickier to adjust than the other way, but still only took a day to fit.

Hey,

Anyone done it to the old style doors? There's only one inner locking mechanism (on the passenger side), which from the looks of it can be done to.

I was thinking of swapping in a passenger side door mechanism with the driver, but (if you think about it, I actually did it... ) it's back-to-front, which means you have to swing the door handle upwards.. that doesn't look any good :?

What are the clubby door mechanisms like for this? Or (from the look of the pics before), is it the inner door release the bit with the lock?

Am I destined to reach that 1M across to unlock the passenger door :D

You can't fit central locking solenoids to the MkI door locks, it's all internal to the lock itself so there's nothing to actuate externally.

This is what the solenoid-in-the-rear-pocket solution I mentioned above was for.. I'm sure it was someone on Ausmini who's done this, maybe they'll pipe up ;)
