From what i've experienced with a 145 on a 4.5" rim (but in 12"), I love it. 8)

If my car didn't look so good, i'd go back to 145 Bridgestone SF226's on a 4.5" 12" rim over my Falken 165's on a 5" 12" rim.

Maybe it's telling everyone something about Falken tyres?

I find it amazing that Falken have been able to produce a rubber that looks like rubber, is soft and flexible as rubber, feels like rubber, but is infact a form of ICE that doesn't melt!

Its incredable! in the rain, it sticks like teflon! mine are so old that the sidewalls have huge cracks  , yet still probably 4mm of tread. its time for new ones.

4.5" wheels are fine with 165 tyres.... I've used 165 falkens, I use Bridgestone SF226's now, Anke's Matic has Yoko A032R's on S rims.... not a problem....

actually, the only S rims I ever see with 145's on them are Aquajets, and they're only doing it for originality (except for Chop Chop who does it to be cool)

Aaron, you need spaced drums to use S wheels, as the extra width is inset, but they barely poke out past the wheel arch, just look at a MK 1 S with S wheels on it, or LS contessas...

Little Matt from SA has A008's on 3.5" wheels on Cracker - now you *can* expect some flex there

Why do they stick on Aquajets for originality when they came out with Dunlop SP41s. 8)

Cos you could option Aquajets... the cops had them, so they must've been good ;)

You couldn't option Aquajets. They didn't start making them till about 71. (right at the very end of the Cooper S story)

hmmmmmm, you sure?

Ian Thompson from MCCNSW has had his MK2 since new, he told me that when he bought it, he optioned the Aquajets, which were on the car at MDU last year. It's a late '70 car - maybe November or something

Like I said, about 71.
So he got his in late 70, so that would match up with the info I have.
So they were available on the Cooper S for about 6 months. Now everyone want to fit Aquajets to any Cooper S because they were the original tyre. Well, damn it, they were not the original tyre for 97% of the Cooper S's and they may have been an option on the other 3%.

It is one of the myths that is becoming the truth unless someone makes a stand. (Just like the ones about the Mk1½ and the Mk3)

In my younger and more foolish days I did this too, but with Falkens. Sidewall flex was prodigious, to the point the tyre would end up rubbing on the shock. My inner sidewalls were shiny.. definitely not recommended.

damn it!! I'm with you on the MK1½, and the MK3.... if only they'd start making SP41's!!

there was a rough deluxe at Hay this year with an SP41 on the front - it was roooooted - not on the car by the end of the weekend
