i've sand blasted a set of wheels also... the only things you need to watch out for are where the tyre seats on the rim. If the sandblaster is a no-brainer and doesn't think about what he's doing, you could end up with some very impressive lawn ornaments!

Powdercoating is fine - i've got a set of sunraysia's on my landcruiser and the powdercoating hasn't chipped at all. Not likely you're mini is going to see the sh*t the cruiser has seen.
It can chip on edges and from high impact - but how often do you high impact small areas of a rim? unless you have enemies throwing rocks at you as you drive past!!!

Another issue is the thickness of paint on the exisitng rim.... luckily the blaster at work did mine - and they were a bastard due to the old/thick paint being very difficult to blast off... he took something like 20 mins a rim.... not a good thing if you're paying!

I got a quote from a guy in Chipping Norton, Nsw to do the whole mini inside and out for $2700. not inc painting but primed. is that a good price??

No, thats crap, I paid $500 in Brisbane for the same deal!

The problem there is "Brisbane". i dont know anyone in Sydney and no one can give me a name or business that does a good deal...
Sometimes i wish i was in other cities with stories of how easy it is to get things done compared to Sydney

Sodablast (do a search) will come to you or will do it at their place with an environmentaly friendly media that'll wash away. They charge approx $400/hour but expect the mini to be done in an hour (its either that or $200/hour and 2 hours to do the mini - can;t remember but cheap).

The only roblem is that some panel beaters express concerns about paint adhesion and corosion after the soda treatment where the metal hasn;t been neutralised with a very mildly acidic mix afterwards.

I wish it was my GT. :)

They only soda blast, the primer you will need to do yourself. Here's the neat trick about the soda, since it only affects the paint (it doesn't scratch the metal), the car doesn't need to be primered immediately after to avoid it rusting.

These guys have done heaps of cars, I suggest you give them a call.
