I have a horrible scraping noise comming from one of my 8.4 rover mayfair L/H disc brake.
It only scrapes in one spot, with no evidence of scoring on the disc.
I am new to discs so am unsure of possible causes.
If it was the wheel bearing it would be a constant noise correct?
Where should i start?
Thanks Anthony.

Does it do it when braking only? Or just while wheel is turning?

Try jacking that wheel off the ground and turning it by hand. is it once per revolution, always in the same spot?

Try the same with the wheel off, you might actually see what it is.

My initial bet is warped disc. The sound though is just a scrape of the pad each revolution of the wheel as the 'high point' passes through the caliper. Does it sound like this, or is the sound more pronounced?

But worth checking the simple things. Are the pad pins present? These brakes came with antisqueel shims, are they in place? (edit: If missing, won't make the slightest bit of difference, i mean, are they in place properly, or loose?) Are all bolts done up? As mentioned, any rocks inside the shield?

Give us a better description of the sound too. Metal on metal scraping? Groaning and creaking, high pitch or low? does it vary with speed? Does it sound like you are playing the beatles backwards?

Cheers

Matt
