Yeah it's all BS, but you get it with old cars. I got a formal warning (if caught with a formal warning you get a defect) from my full roadworthy because I had an after market steering when it clearly says in the modification rules fopr SA cars prior to 1971 don't require an approved steering wheel. I also got failed for not having a front demister, 850s didn't even have heaters standard!

It all got sorted in the end, even when I did play by the rules. The biggest issue with SA is that the only roadworthy place is at the Transport SA, that's why most people downhere lie and don't play by the rules, honest people like me get ripped off. :(

Find someone mini friendly and 'she'll be right!'. :)

One of our members got around the demister rule with a 12V PC fan in a hole in top of dash... 8)

So its not just sport (apart from Rugby) where you Auntie Podeans seem to be able to teach us a thing or two - your vehicular bureaucracy seems to set new standards of ridiculousness.

Our 72 clubman got knocked back for its RWC in vic coz it didn't have a heater or demister in it (it came as standard, why you would take it out is beyond me) and the reverse lights didnt work. As i said to my mechanic who did the RWC (and isn't a mini specialist) "you find a reverse switch for the remote gearbox and I'll pay for it", she couldn't find one, so let it slide. I still had to fit a heater/demister, and she passed it. When we put our 850 in for its RWC, it passed with absolute nothing wrong. Its stock standard with no belts in the back and no heater. Now we have a '65 850 van with a 998 out of a late model clubman and the old pudding stirrer box and no heaters. My mechanic assures me it will pass without any issues as by '65 the 998 was an option. Id definetly try another RWC buddy.

Very True!

I had a car fail Roadworthy once because the bootlid would not always stay open by itself. It had a factory fitted boot spoiler and the springs were a bit weak. He insisted it was unsafe as the boot lid may fall on your head when you are loading groceries. I pointed out that's what the broom handle in the boot was for.

if you can prove that the engine was a factory option with NO OTHER MODIFICATIONS or that the other modifications that came with the engine when it was fitted as an option are fitted to your vehicle there is no problem. If the engine is of the same type as the original and within a certain % of original output there is no problem. beyond that it is a certificate.
