A while back CAMS introduced a rule that allowed juniors to drive in Motorkhanas with a passenger to supervise.
Contact CAMS or your club secretary.
Looking at my last CAMS manual (2000) the age is 12 and over.
Quote:
10.8 The Minimum age for drivers in any Motorkhana is 12 years. Drivers must be able to demonstrate an ability to control the vehicle.
(I will try to find the latest version online) but it is up to the club as to what age they will allow.

Actually when the rules allowed passengers in any car they didn't limit number of passengers, so we had a car cram khana! Fancy doing a forward and reverse slalom with 8 people in an XE Falcon.

The age used to be 14,,, when i was a young fella, there was no "legal" age, then i started beating quite a few "older" people & suddenly there were CAMS officials comming to the events asking questions like how old was i & how long have i been driving etc

Then the following year there was a new rule added to the code that stated "Not allowd to OBTAIN a licence until the age of 14"

Dads agument then was that because i`d allready paid my renewall prior to the end of the last year, that i wasn`t "OBTAINING" a licence, i allready had one :-) (They still stopped me driving at some State & national events tho)

The year after that they cahnged the rule to read "Cannot "HOLD" a licence till the age of 14

go figure hey, just because some old farts got their nose out of joint because a little spindly 12 year old kid was beating them at a motokhana they go & fetch the big hob knobs to change rules, & their argument was "In the Name of saftey",,, so if i was unsafe racing at the age of 12 ,,, & beating "MOST" of the field everywhere we went, then wats that say for the safety of "ThEIR" driving hey???

Ok,,, just an age old rant of mine, it`s done & dusted now

I`m pretty sure the legal age is still 14 tho.

The online version of the manual says that 12 is the age.

Yes, it's age 12. You can have an adult passenger if you like - someone to help pull the handbrake on and tell you which flags to go around.

:D :D

there are at least 3 or for juniors starting next year that i know of, so you will be in good company. 12 is the age for motorkhana's but khanacrosses are somewhat older i think 14 but it may well be 16. all will be well and you will have a blast. It is great tat we will have some juniors next year. Don't forget to come out and do the training day. the day is specific to juniors and people that have little or no experience. Best way to start out.

Cheers
Aaron
