this is horsesh*t, how the hell can u go to a company that is making a classic mini model and say ur using the word mini... u cant cause we are using mini thats our name!!! WTF thats like BMC now going to bmw saying hey u cant use mini cause we created mini...

as far as im concerned bmw have no right to dictate it in anyway, considering there car isnt a mini its a recreation of it and they are using the original name from the 50's....

Just for a bit of fun.

Was it actually called the Mini in the UK release year, 1959?

I know there was the Austin Seven (renamed after the old Seven, or Se7en??) and a Morris Mini Minor, but which was first, or were they at the same time? I have some literature on this but am way too lazy to get it out, and it's UKL history...Not as good as Aussie. :P

The funny thing was the way that BMW kept the Mini name while giving Rover the rights to the Mini spare parts.
But now the parts section is owned by Delphi and Ford owns the Rover name (but Ford does not own any of the old Rover company)

Wow.... Is the Rover company owned by Nankang or something like that motors? I know that a Chinese firm was interested but I never found out if they ended up buying it. If they do own it, they can build the cars, but can't call the Rover's right?

I 'spose it doesn't really matter because Ford will probably be selling all that stuff anyways. BMW will hold onto MINI as it seems profitable.

Nanjing Automobile only own MG - not Rover. So the Rover is 75 is built as the Roewe (Rover is bad Chinese accent) and the MG 7. The MG TF will be called the MG TF.

The Rover name went with Land Rover and the Uniparts to Ford.

All historical designs and names have been retained by BMW.

Yes, It was Nanjing that ended up with everything except the name "Rover". Ford wanted the Rover name as they own Land-Rover and it seemed silly to have one name and not the other.
A few names are still owned by BMW but some slipped through and the Chinese now own MG, Wolseley, Austin, Morris, Vanden Plas, Princess and Sterling).

I would just like to add that people should not judge MINI owners nor their cars by the actions of BMW.

Don't worry, I can assure you, I don't like BMW drivers all the same, and BMWs actions have nothing to do with it.

sweet - lets all get together and contact Nanjing, we'll buy the names Austin and Morris, and then let anyone produce models, cups, backpacks or whatever the hell they want royalty free, they can call them Morris Cooper and Austin Cooper... no mention of Mini - that'll screw those mother f*ckers right up - tho they'll probably then contact Mike Cooper and threaten to ditch their contract with him unless he f*cks us over too

so Babes, do BINI owners support what BMW is doing?
