Hey Cush, your previous settings were a tad out ay?

But the setup sounds good from what you say. :)

About Dunlops.....

Just get them, there's no competition (appart from Yoko A032's but they are much more expensive).

ive learnt my lesson about setting my suspension low. for starters mini a low enough already, when u have passengers ur ass drags and its to hard to go over bumps and humps.

i would with mike and send it to john at belmore he did my suspension back to standard and did a great job. he told me he had some fun in my car as well.... :D

For those people out there with adjustable suspension, what are you running and how well does it handle and what is the comfort level like???

Front; -1.5 degrees negative camber, 1mm toe out per side.
Rear; -0.5 degrees negative camber, 0.5mm toe in per side.

I think this is what i had mine set to.

Oh, and i have hydro, ride height set 1.75" from the front guard (no flares) to the tyre (yoko A032R, the best IMHO, but you will pay plenty of $$ for them).

With oil filled shocks on the front, rear comp bump stops & hydro, it rides really smooth, comfort is better than almost any other car on the road if you don't count lack of air con and the noise..... but i kind of like those! Handles pretty good 8) 8) Just won't let go, no matter how much it seems to defy all common sense!

If you want comfort and performance, go back to hydro.

Rubber cone isn't too bad though, but as mentioned, comfort and performance will be a compromise.

Then, also, is it track performance, road performance, straight line performance, tyre longevity, or something else you are after, because you should know the answer to 'what am i wanting to do with my mini' before you start.

Good luck,

Matt

I was having trouble opening the link to the tyre page yesterday. Finally got it open last night.

I have been speaking to a mechanic friend of mine and he was telling me that the amount of camber i can run depends on the grip levels of the tyres I am running. The more grip, the more camber you can run.

I was thinking of adjusting the height so I had roughly 1 inch between tyre and guard at back and maybe 2 inches at the front.... Sound good or not? I have seen a number of minis setup this wayu and they seem to handle well...

All mini's "seem" to handle well but te reality is that some are skittish and darty and others can be very smooth and precise. Its not until you are at the very limits of handling that you can properly appreciate the differences. Pure pigs of badly set up mini's are the exception. They are simply just pigs.

The best advice you can be given is to get your tyres and take the car to John Leffler without doing any fiddling, forget what your mate said because the mini is not a commodore.

Fiddling with give you a very unstable car that is difficult to turn into corners and will scrub tyres very quickly.

Ouch! My mate has been prepping race minis for years and knows what he is doing... Your right though, take it to a guy that knows how to properly set the up... Doesnt mean that the theory isnt sound or true....

Okay - my apologies - I hear so many stories about mates mates whose total experience is based around a few drinks at the pub. Somebody who has been there and done that the hard way and understands the dynamic of mini handling is a different matter.

Question Mike,

Did you sell a couple of panel vans to another mini bloke who lives in Gulgong a couple of years back??? If so, I think I have one of them in my shed lol

No wasn't me
Tell me more - there are only a couple of people who have minis or mini shells in Gulgong.

I have a feeling that the person you are talking about is Tony Riley who was our local Century Twenty One Realtor who shot his wife's lover dead on St Val's last year. Tony then took out half his face with a failed suicide attempt with the same shotgun.

Those panel vans came from the storage centre in Mudgee

My uncle who has a number of minis lives in Gulgong and he bought the minis (half complete) from a man who had them sitting in one of his paddocks.

Interesting bout people shooting each other...
