The tank is not going to help - is it near a wall of the garage?, could you then make a small "room" around it that was reasonably air-tight to the rest of the garage (obviously it will need a door of some sort/size) then vent that room to the outside?

What sort of fish tank setup is it , what typpe of filter (some release more moisture than others) , some photo's might help too . So , to summarise , it is a marine (salt water) aquarium (you said tropical , that normally means fresh water though) and you've seen some salt from it on the floor ? If that's the case it is most likely from a leak than moisture in the air . When salt water evaporates the salt stays on whatever the water was on and pure fresh water evaporates as steam so you've only got to worry about pooling water on tiny , not water vapour . The only way the salt water gets airborn is if the pump or filter is splashing it about or spraying tiny beads of it (like a squirt bottle that hairdressers use) into the air .

If the water is splashing on tiny then yes the salt will affect him (if it is a salt water aquarium) , a little bit of salt water being misted by a pump or filter might have a slow affect on him but if the water is just evaporating from the tank then the moisture in the air is only fresh water which while isn't ideal is the same as tiny being outside on a humid day .

Are you sure what you saw dried out was salt or was it just a white powdery stuff , some harder waters (water with minerals etc) can leave a white residue over time if somethings been leaking there slowly over time .

How certain were you of it's condition under the paint beforehand ? If rust is just bogged over it will miraculously appear all of a sudden again in a few months . I'm afraid I'm skeptical that a fish tank in a room with the mini would cause it to erupt in bad rust in 6 months unless the rust was already there under the paint to begin with or the tank had split , drenched the mini and the salt water was left on it .

I greatly doubt a salt fish tank would cause your car to rust so quickly. I would suggest that the rust was lurking. Once it starts it runs away pretty quickly. Especially if it wasnt primed suitably.
