hey there ive decided to build a turbod 998. Ive got a 998 block and gearbox sitting at my mums house and i thought that its going to be easy to build it cause its out of the car and then leave the 1100 in so i can drive my mini while doing the 998. But before i get to carried away is a 998turbo going to be unreliable for an everyday car or will it be alrite if i run low boost while just driving it round and then up it when i need to?
Thanks Blake

my turbo 1100 is my daily driver , i use 6psi-10psi boost and have now done 20,000km since the rebuild with no engine issues. I do about 400-500km a week with it.

the only things that have gone wrong was really at the drags , on the street your cruising 95% of the time so the turbo is doing nothing , ie the engine is just running vacumn and will last just as long a a no boosted motor.

if you going to thrash it around all day everyday the life will obliviously be reduced but if built properly and only running around 7psi you should be fine.

the weekest part of my turbo setup at the moment would be the head gasket, seems to blow at around 12+psi boost but i doubt you will run that everyday. (acl one)

hope that helps

ben
