I spoke to the guys at Heritage MG and they say they stock 2 types of LCB extractors.

One is a standard set where the first joint is before the bend (probably Perry type etc) and are pretty cheap).

They also have a larger "Longman Type" set which is mondrell bent.
I was just wondering what's the story with mondrel bent LCB's - are they any good for a mild 1275 - how do they compare to the Maniflow type? Anyone owns one:?

I have found that the pommie LCBs rust

They rusted out at the bend, probably where the moisture sits when the car is parked. Good news is that I cut off the rusty bits and made them fit my Austin Montego!

I run a Maniflow LCB, has been on the car 8 years now. Not rusted out....
For road use though I like the 3-1 freeflow- easier to fit, less pipe joins, more ground clearance, better economy probably. Barney's 1098 has one (Perry) and it's staying there when the 1293 goes in.

What is your opinion on the performance difference of the LCB over the freeflow manifold Kev? Much noticable difference?

Never had both on the same motor, so I don't really know. With sane road cams, I know either will work OK. Most people do seem to go for LCBs on 1098s and 1275s.
On Barney's 1293 I'm using the `if it ain't broke (and new) don't fix it' theory, so the freeflow stays.

<edit> I had a Perry LCB on my 1310, swapped it for a Maniflow medium bore LCB and it went better. Pipe size is a little bigger, bends are better too.

There are also two sizes in the lcb range... both with two pipes around the bend.
I find the one with the smaller pipes to work better.1 7/8 outlet
Nothing wrong with the larger ones but you need to use more revs to get the same power.2" outlet

Yea but whats a "mondrel bent" extractor set?

When pipes are bent on a mechanical bender they tend to deform the pipe on the inside radius, where the bend meets the straight bits.
If mandrel bent this doesn't happen- bends are truer and full pipe section.

Just be careful with mandrel bent extractors.
The centre pipe doesn't allow you to use single or twin carb manifold. Weber only.
Whatever you run, just check your inlet manifold before fitting

to be able to fit the 1"3/4 single carby to my motor.....

Should fit if you use a decent manifold- like the MiniSpares one, or one of Graham Russell's.. or Metro one perhaps.

Yep, my "Mini Spares Center" heated manifold fits over the Maniflow LCB's with no problems at all.
