Ok First a bit of history. A couple of week ago my mini has a an oil light appearing witch had me concerned, so had the car check all good as oil pressure goes. Went on the spere car, took the oil pressure switch out and replace it with Henry one. To do that i had to take the dizzy out, when i put it back on Henry start running like a dog :(

Today back from holliday, i have receive a new oil pressure swith and a mechanical oil gauge, so nice little project for the day. So pull the dizzy out, remove the oil pressure switch, put the T piece the oil pressure switch and the gauge. When i went to put the dizzy back i couldn put it back in the exact same possition, so reposition to make it fit :D

Then i went for a little drive (3 minutes) WELL

The car is running like crap (Can i say crap   )
After 3 minutes the temps is in the red
And it's smell like burning, rubber burning

What is wrong with Henry, could this all be cause by a dizzy not put back correctly???

As stated before i im not too good with mechanical stuff, but have i stuff something.

PS: The gauge works well, i have great oil pressure.....only good news for the day

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

correct... the distributor is positioned specifically as part of the tuning process, it sounds like you have RETARDED the ignition, meaning the spark is occurring too late, turning the distributor CLOCKWISE slightly while the engine is idling, turn it until it the revs increase (the engine will race), and then drop off, then turn it back to before the engine raced. Then as soon as possible, go and get it tuned properly

Thanks for that SimonK, would this explain the burning smell???

Also, what do you do if the new oil sender bits are in the way????

If the temp is going into the red, that will explain the burning smell.

If the new bits are stopping you from getting a good ignition timing setting you will need to turn the distributor drive gear a couple of teeth. Not something to do if you are unsure of how to do the timing.
Do what simon said, then get yourself to a reputable mechanic to tune it for you.

yeah, the burning smell is because the engine is so hot that the oil deposits on the outside of the engine are burning off... one time my cooper's heater tap developed a leak, and it lost all the water, got extraordinarily hot and all the gunk on the head burnt off, and the paint changed colour, now my head fades from sky blue near the radiator to light green near the clutch... quite a fancy effect

you could turn the distributor 90 or 180 degrees, and reposition the spark plug leads - it's not hard to do, but it's important to make marks, and take photos of where everything is now, so that you can put it back where it was if/when it doesn't work and you need to start over.
