wow, thanks guys. Thanks gafmo for the diagram, I do have that one in the manual I downloaded, but wasnt sure if I should even try and follow it coz it says for Mini 1000 Saloon (Canada).

I'll print all this stuff out and go connect up a few wires and the fuel pump (with an inline fues ;) ). I was never going to leave that aligator clip there  but I didnt know how it should be connected.
I find it hard to believe (and worry about my engine rebuild) after seeing how my wiring was left. I'll just have to hope the engine internals got better treatment :(

Thanks heaps again guys.

After I connect up a few more wires. umm. there are more :)

as Arnie says "I'll be back"

PS What is a "spade" connector?
So far Ive come across the plastic plug ends (female that plug on to a terminal or into another plug end), one of them (White with red trace) at 90 degrees to the wire.
Then theres the circle type ends with holes in them that a bolt goes through.
and the push on type, like crinkly wire shape, both male and female of those.
On the solenoid there are 3 of those., and wires that plug on to those terminals would have the female ends.

Which one is a spade connector?

I personally wouldn't put a fuse on the fuel pump.
If you blow a fuse.... your stranded. Normally this happens at the worst possible time.
Same with ignition wire(white) and low beam(blue/white).
These three things are a major nesessity to get home in the case of a problem

Well, had a good day today. After following your suggestions, and with the help of the wiring diagram, Im slowly getting through it.
Today, I wired the alternator, one Brown with yellow trace, one brown and one brown with blue trace :D
I wired the electric fuel pump from the pump (there was another aligator clamp under the car). I took the wire back and up through the rear taillight wiring hole, then along the inside floor, under the door trim and through the dash, then along under the windscreen and followed the loom up to the fusebox, damn Im proud of me :)
um I forgot the inline fuse, but as brickworx has suggested maybe dont use one, I'll go with that.. fuel pump sorted :D

One wire that has me stumped (there are more but this one for now) is the white with brown trace and female of the spade connector plug ends. According to the wiring diagram it goes to the oil pressure switch, but I dont know where that is, or if I have one. I looked in the manual I downloaded but could only find the oil pressure relief valve which has no wires coming from it. Can anyone shed any light on that please?

Damn, I was using a different wiring diagram, the one gafmo has shown here shows the white with brown trace that I coul;dnt find on the wiring diagram I was using today (Saloon, van and pickup 76 onwards :( grrrrrr, ah well will check the stuff Ive done, and now I know where the white with brown trace goes :)

Thanks gafmo

It is for the oil pressure switch just above the pressure relief valve...
If your car has had an oil pressure guage fitted there will be no where for this wire to go

No...don't do that, coil will be on all the time.
No white with brown wire near coil or solenoid. This is what you should have...
white wire from ignition goes to positive of coil.
negative of coil goes into distributor.... maybe via white with black wire(tacho wire on s model)

With the ignition on.... earth the white with brown wire.... orange light should come on dashboard

Well wouldnt you replace it with a spare fuse (you should have atleast 2 30amp ones in your fusebox - I always carry a box around too). Wouldnt you be stranded too if you burn out the points in the pump?

I can see your point mike...
But if your blowing fuses your just going to blow them til your run out.
The factory designed the car with the fuel pump unfused for this reason.
The only real reason for burning out your fuel pump points is overcharge from
a faulty alternator. A well serviced, well maintained car shouldn't have this problem.
I'm also talking original SU pumps aswell.... some people think they are crap, but i get the best value from them(serviceable aswell). You buy cheap aftermarket pumps and it will cause you trouble sometime

Sorry brickworx, I'm lost... don't do what? To make the coil on all the time?
I have to work today, but hopefully will get a bit done later today. There is already a wire from the coil to the distributor, I'll see what colour it is.
When wiring the fuel pump, at present its spade connected into the fusebox on the inside (closest to engine) and back (closest to the cab, next to a pile of green wires. Is that ok or should it be on the forward side (closer to the front of the car) next to the white wire?

I wasnt sure if it had to be 'next' to the white wires or opposite them (other side of the fuse)

Thanks again for your time guys, you're a real help. :)

If your worried about possible safety and security issues, i would wire the electric fuel pump through a toggle switch or similar, sometimes it's nice to be able to make sure the fuel supply is cut.

Cheers

IT'S GOING!!!!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Brickworx gave me his number and offered to talk me through any homeless wires, I connected up the battery, and wholy crap I had dash lights!!!

Then... I cranked her over, took a couple of goes, but YES she goes!

Sounds fantastic :D

The only slight problem I see at this point is that a red light was still on the dash after I turned the key off, and even after I removed the key. So I had to disconnect the battery. Would anyone know if that indicates anything in particular?

Im so happy :D Big thanks to all you guys
