My input is limited mainly because I am not from Brisbane nor have I ever been there or had anything to do with any businesses up there.

BUT From what I have heard and read Matt Read would be the man to see.

I am sure others will have more input.

Check the How to forum for the Business Listing and call a few places.

Matt

Most brake places can do them, and you get them to provide some rebonded brake shoes to suit while you are there to suit the new oversize.

Check your drum prior to taking them down however as if they have been machined out to their maximum oversize (7.25" i think??) they will be junk.

My last lot were from

Mini Automotive
21 Old Toowoomba Rd
Ipswich Qld 4305
(07) 3281 4255

[email protected]

He had a go, no-go gauge to check if the drums were too large and also had thick-bonded shoes paired with exhcange drums.

(It was 1997 though....)

There are 2 industry standard oversizes for all drums, they are + 1/32" (.03125")and + 1/16" (+.0625"). 8)
As said get them to supply bonded shoes to suit, don't try and use stock shoes. They will be out of adjustment before bedded in.

Thanks doc, I knew you could get them machined twice (for some reason I thought .020" & then 0.040" )

I'm pretty sure he can skim your drums for you. Personally I would recommend new standard drums and shoes, they aren't particularly expensive and I've never been a fan of rebonded shoes, unless there is no other option.

For the cost of replacement drums ($45??) I would just replace them with new.

I picked up a rear set of 4 x shoes from Karcraft last week and they were about $30! Bargain. Fronts were slightly more but are a wider shoe.

Those details are incorrect now that he has moved.

Glen has moved?
I can't imagine the fun he would have had cleaning the shed out! And the little bits of treasure down the back...

they arent classified as mini experts but they pretty much are now :D

ABS Geebung
3/400 Newman Rd
Geebung
Ph:07 3632 1500

i pretty much rebuilt my mini ground up there so they know a fair bit about minis now lol. Machining drums or skimming as you have said is no drama at all there and doesnt cost much either. the mechanic checks how much meat is left on it and whether it is still alright or not.

they are brake experts so its win win lol
