Tap Dance?

You might be thinking of The Flying Finns which has a section early in the film showing Timo Makinen driving the Works Cooper S (not Rauno), and constrasting that with Hannu Mikkola driving a Ford Escort.

The film is actually the official documentary on the 1968 1000 Lakes Rally. The in-car footage of Timo is terrific and the way he tap dances on the pedals, left-foot-braking, is great to watch, but makes you understand how he broke so many gear boxes.

By the way, we sell that DVD as well. :D

Cheers,
Watto.

The Bourne Identity features a pretty good Mini car chase.

One film you may not have seen is called Vive Le Sport. It was an advertising film for Dunlop which features a couple of tidy Sheilas (as I believe you call them) on a european trip in a UK Mk 2 Cooper S. It also has one of the cars from The Italian Job in it very briefly. Its difficult to find but well worth the effort - Graham in Aus might have a copy?

There is also a French film which is called something like The Probablity Factor in English which has Remy Julienne (who did The Italian Job stunts) smashing up a Mk 1 Mini but I can't find it on his filmography.

I'd have to say Cannon Ball run and Gumball were my faves as a kid but I remember seeing what i think was
a NZ film about a American stunt car driver in a yank muscle car driving around NZ with some runaway kids being chased by the cops.
I don't know if I remember the plot right, but I do remember that all the scenes were filmed in real time with all the real sounds.
I saw it on midday TV about 15 years ago and have never seen it since.

I'm going to check out www.imcdb.org

I've got 50yrs of Rallying dvd - good mini bits in that, plus some classic footage of other cars and drivers - even the mrs enjoyed it.
And what about Mr Bean????
When we're out driving in the mini we are always amazed at how much attention and waves the car gets from little kids - first I thought it was cos it's "small and cute" in their eyes, or because the parents are into minis or something like that, but yesterday I was walking back to the car from a shop and heard a couple of kids chatting (they were only about 5yo) and one said - "look at the mini" - and the other said "yeh a Mr Bean car".....
This got me thinking that maybe we owe a big thank you to Mr Bean for helping perpetuate the popularity of the mini with the next generation(s). 8)
Peter.

Found another one over the weekend , "RPM" , $2 from the discount shops . It's all about a plan to steal a supercar and the supercar's owners have 2 sportspack coopers for their security so they're used for a brief chase scene , just enough for a few handbrake turns and mountain pass roads .

Ooh, don't forget The Car Makers by Leyland Australia.

Lousy acting, poor plot line, but very interesting historically from the point of view of the P76, and a couple of good cameo shots with an Export Moke and a Mini van, plus two Clubman police cars at the end, and the climactic chase scene in P76s through the Zetland factory grounds.

How Leyland ever convinced the ABC this was not an advertisment, and got them to run it in its entirety as a feature film, remains one of the automotive industry's greatest cons.

Only available through the BMC/Leyland Australia Heritage Group.

Cheers,
Watto.

Quote:
Rikky & Pete, (an Aussie film but only available at the moment through the US - get it on line through Amazon.com) is an interesting road-trip film, featuring over 20 Mokes in the final scene, and another Moke at the start and in a few places through the film. I loved the evangalist with the old Renault.

The Mokes all have weird contraptions on the roofs, which fold newspapers into paper planes and fire them at the houses, as the Moke drives up the street. See Issue 8 of TME for details on the making of the film.

Cheers,
Watto
