Agreed Mike - driver training (the standard "get your licence and hit the road" stuff) is totally useless when it comes to emergencies - but hey, they know how to park
I too live in a high tourist area, and you can tell which drivers aren't use to driving on country roads - they either look really nervous and unsure of their next move, or drive with such arrogance and disregard for others (and speed) that they are just waiting to cause an accident.
But then again, some of the country folk get pretty blase about traffic etc, and when there's a busy weekend like there's just been, they still pull out onto main roads from their dirt tracks as if it's a quiet old tuesday or something - saw it happen yesterday, and minor chaos followed until he pulled back into the dirt verge (ute with hay bales).
What annoyed me about the weekend was the number of cameras and patrols in 60 or 50k zones - not out on the open road where the
real danger is.
And what about the bloke who was flashing headlights at oncoming traffic cos just over the hill was a random booze bus set up (at 10 in the morning) - does he think he's doing the world a favour by warning drunk drivers that they might get caught.....fair dinkum.
Peter.
