The tourists are often out of their depth when driving in conditions not suited to the urban situation they are used to.

In Tasmania they are not used to the windy roads which demand some attention, in outback Oz they are not used to the wildlfe playing chicken on the highways, in the north they can't deal with the monsoon rain and storms (if you stopped for every "shower" you would have a long trip home). Once people are out of their depth and/or taking in the scenery then commuting at the fastest speed isn't their main priority.

This is an old chestnut, back in the day the old fellas on here dealt with slow old FE Holdens I bet, I dealt with slow old XA fords, and now we all deal with slow old camrys. And no one has even mentioned caravans yet...

A good driver learns to expect the unexpected.
You go over a crest and find a parked car in the middle of the road, so what? You should expect something over a crest. It is called anticipation.

It could be a parked car, it could be a crashed motorcycle, it could be a kangaroo, it could be anything. Just learn to expect it.

Always drive with the assumption that around the next blind corner is a drunk driving a steam roller on the wrong side of the road towards you.

We found a dill in a Porsche 911 overtaking on a blind corner and double lines. We swerved and missed him but were going too fast to avoid the roadside scenery.
I spent 5 months in traction and 10 months off work as a result. :x
I won't post the pic of my mate's Mini this time.
Yes it could have been much worse.

For the argument of slow driving...it is illegal to do less than 20% of the posted speed limit. Well it is in QLD. Not sure on other states.

And being a mini driver and motorcyclist - anticipation is what saves your life on the road on a daily basis.

As far as young people (like myself being 19) go. ive been told by a driving instructor i have good car control. i was told at a driving course that my mini has an advantage on the roads compared to anything hes seen. i also am the first person to scare the guy in 15 years.

i had a long think about this.

the term "you never think it will happen to you" basically sums it up

i have plenty of mates that have good car control. probably make decent drivers given a circuit and a little practice. i used to be into the gokart racing myself but borrowed karts without practice and ran the same times as others my age.

But when i think about it how many kids my age have had experiences like this?
false confidence in there skills. They can believe in this skill untill it kills them or someone else on the road then suddenly they realize. i think all new drivers have the crap scared out of them. for me it was a muddy dirt track i was sliding along a straight road at about 30 or 40 and slipped into the ditch next to the road 80 bucks and a car wash later i learnt my lesson. luckly this way and not another.

in the end i think i have one thing over my mates. they maybe able to control a car as good as me but i can control myself.

For NSW under the OLD Traffic Act there were offences for "Obstructing the Free Flow of Traffic" but these are long gone since the introduction of the Australian Road Rules.

Yeh, I was thinking about this - if it was so, would it mean that every truck that gets down to 20 or 30k going up a hill/mountainside (and they do) would therefore be breaking the law?
Gotta be crap - maybe an old law that's been superceded, like scotta says.

It's still there in a similar wording (At least in the RAN).
If they can't quite put into words why you pissed them off so badly, they'll pull this one out. Usually reserved for random acts of superior idiocy.
