I have been thinking of building a barn.... I think my S needs a barn.

Actually I really have been thinking of making a diorama of a barn so I could stick my car in a show in it!

Watto,

I assume you already have the Gary Norwood lists of Mk1's & 2's.

Hi Peter.

Yes, I do have Gary Norwood's list, but a bit of the bottom of the Mk2 list (from 2500 down) is very hard to read - it is a photocopy of a photocopy.

If you have a decent copy of it, can you scan it and email to me?

Cheers,
Watto.

Will do so tomorrow.

I have added cars to it over the years, from those I've seen at
show N' shines etc so I hope there's no corrupt data.

Cheers mate.

Thanks Peter.

This is exactly how the list is going to come together. I'm sure many people have been adding to their own lists over the years, but the only way to make it as comprehensive as possible, and actually of any benefit to owners, is to bring all these lists together.

There will be a fair bit of doubling up on info, but it often helps to double check cars. I've already had a few cars that have cropped up that are on my list, and in most cases confirming the info I already had.

There have been a couple that have made me question the data I already had, and notations have been made on the list - eg a very early engine number with a late chassis number, or an engine number which is one or two digits away from the engine number I already had.

Because engines are easily changed - and lets face it, 40 years ago it was not seen as important to keep the original engine (and most race cars would have been through a few engines) - it is best to get the information (for Mk1 particularly) from the vehicle ID plate, rather than what engine is currently in the car.

This also goes for the colour. A car may have been repainted at some stage, but it is the original colour/s that I am after.

Remember, I'm after production info, not info on what the car is or has today.

Cheers,
Watto.

I visited a fella once who had at least 6 Cooper S engines...and that is only one example...I also know of a case where a MKI was sold with a MKII engine and the MKI engine retained...go figure

Well, that would be the sort of info, except the VIN number isn't right for a Cooper S.

You might need to check it again. If that is what it genuinely says on the Compliance Plate then there is something not right in the State of Denmark.

I suggest checking Issue 14 of the Mini Experience, which gives details of how to tell if a Cooper S is genuine.

Cheers,
Watto.

Thanks Slacko for the info - another one for the list.

I take it the numbers are from the ID plate, but it appears that the numbers on the bulkhead and the radiator shrowd don't match the plate.

As you are in Narellan, it might be worth taking the car into John Smidt at Mini King and see if he can shed any light on it.

Hey Norton, the project is proceeding slowly, but I currently have around 350 cars on the list.

I'm aiming for 1,000 before I can really start making many assumptions or generalisations about production.

Cheers,
Watto.

Thanks Zep.

Do you know the body number? (around 500 less than the chassis number - should be stamped into the radiator shroud but may be hard to read if full of paint. Should have a stamp with M2/06 then the number)

What colour is the interior trim? I would expect light green or black, but may be Doeskin (light tan/cream).

Cheers,
Watto.
