Im wanting to get the MK1 Cooper S front plate & heater ears refinished in the original crinkle finish, anyone know of a place in Sydney that can replicate it?

Doogie,

I bought a can of "Crinkle Finish" black paint that i think was of a VHT brand. Most places like repco or Robbos spares sell it. It cost me about $17.

It worked well, I used a heat gun to speed up the crinkle effect. Worse case if you don't like it you can strip it straight off. From memory it does take a few days to cure properly though.

Used it on the dash of an MGB and it looked quite good - easy to apply too.

How are you going to replicate the lettering for the air flow control lever? Mine needs a bit of repair but I don't want to destroy the original lettering.

I sent mine to minisport, paid $70- and got a perfect finish (front plate only) they even screen print the lettering back on the correct size and font. Depends how good a job you want I guess but letraset and the like dont work on the crinkle paint.

Yep , I used the crinkle in a can too, looks the goods, just have to figure out how to do the white writing on there as others have said, its a bit hard to do.

Matt has my car at the moment so I can't put up a pic :wink:
