http://www.smh.com.au/news/web/ebay-to-accept-cash-and-paypal-only/2008/04/09/1207420470674.html

Soon the only payment methods accepted will be Paypal, Paypal, Paypal and COD.

It sucks.

I would expect we will see even less Mini parts being available on Ebay - and that's assuming you could find them in the first place.

The big problem is for sellers as Paypal takes around 2.5% fee, which is on top of Ebay fees. What's more, it covers the total sale price including postage, so expect sellers to increase postage costs accordingly.

I've used paypal before to buy stuff from oversea's but I don't like using it for local transactions - especially as I'm picky who I buy off of and have never been burned by a seller. I certainly won't be eBaying anymore

When selling mini stuff on ebay, 95% of payments came to me via Paypal (30 ish things sold, so only minor)

My average was 88% of price 'sold' was mine, ebay (inc PPal) therefore got an average 12% cut. (ALL fees included there).

I sold things for on average 50% higher than offers on here or through the club.

So I was still better off profit-wise selling through ebay with Paypal.

It won't slow ebay down.

My 2c

Matt

I've got no problem with using Paypal in general (although i suppose i've mainly been buying so why would it bother me?) I reckon this will backfire on them.

All someone has to do is say that they will take 'cash' and subtly suggest that they can make other arrangements (ie bank transfer etc) and then arrange it via email/messages/phone calls etc.

They cannot view every listing to check for this sort of thing.

I do recall when I was selling a pile of stuff a few years ago, feeling very hard done by when the paypal invoice came in skimming hard-earned money off the top :(

Paypal really pissed me off recently as they will not let you move countries. And then they won't let you register in the new country with the same email address. So I am now the proud owner of 2 Paypal log-ins. Bah!

I have done a lot of selling on Ebay and have found that Paypal payments do not generally make up the majority of payments. Generally Paypal is only used by people wanting to pay with credit cards. A majority of things I have sold have been paid for by bank deposit.

I don't think it is going to make much difference to your average buyer (or seller for that matter), but for people running an online store through Ebay, it will reflect a further cut of the profit margin, and that on top of recent hikes.

The biggest thing that is the annoyance is ebay owned (is) paypal.
It's simply a way of doubling up on fees.
Now, if they make the listing cost of something free and only get a cut of the end that'd work fine, but it's one mob requesting two payments for the same thing.
:?

THIS IS CRAP!! what am i gonna waste my money on now with no ebay to buy useless crap :P  im going to have to actually SAVE money

nah but i reckon it is kinda stupid limiting it to paypal, however i agree with weevel in that i reckon some sellers are just gonna put another contact address or something in their ad, and 'suggest' if you would like to discuss PAYMENT METHODS, please contact me.

Offering other payment methods in your listing will be a listing policy violation and potentially result in your account being suspended. However, that would not stop you putting something in your listing such as "I accept all payment methods except Cash on Delivery". You wouldn't want to hint too loudly or you'll get noticed.

Just ask me and I'll give you my bank details as I have always done. Ebay can stick it in their arse. Post will be by request and not indicated. I just want to place an ad, not deal with a beauracracy.
