there is no clutch. it is a flywheel assembly that has a coupling mounted to it that then runs to the bellhousing you see there. There is a direct connection from the crank/flywheel to the dyno brake that way. Knowing Graham, everything is balanced and has the minimum effect on the engine characteristics. The bellhousing has the water brake at the back of it that measures the torque.

This engine dyno is used for more than just fwd A-series. I have seen rwd A-series, datsun engines from L20 to L26, formula 5000 v8s all on the same dyno. the only difference is the coupling and bellhousing arrangement.

cheers
michael

Well the engine is in, almost, I was hopeing to have have the top engine steadies in and have a start on the wiring this weekend but I spent most of the two days finding the right bits and pieces , cleaning and painting them, The bad news is that the SU hits the firewall... , only just!, the jet bridge just touches the wall, so i'm thinking that the right sized hole saw should fix that...I'll see next weekend.

A big thanks to John and Scott at the Mini King today, John for letting me in to use his handy tools and hunt through his bits and for Scott sqeezing into a car up the back to help get a part I needed. :D

Comming along Nicely Greg.
Have a chat to GR and check if you can angle/mill both the carby side & the head side of the Inlet manifold to raise the Carb

You may want to attache the engine steadies before you modify anything with the carb. It might just be that the steadies will push the engine away from the firewall and give you the clearance you need.

and if you do need the clearance, i would use the right size hammer rather than a holesaw

ditto to the above.... put the engine steadies on, and talk to GR about whether you should use a hammer or the mill...

and you're gonna wish you'd put that wiper assembly in before the motor - definitely do it before you fit that carb

Yeah, thanks for the advice guys, I did fit the steadies to check the clearance before I panicked...... :D , I still just might use the BFH. The wiper assembly is the next job for sure.... :D , I'll let you know how it turns out on the weekend.

Cheers Gerg

Couple of things here Gerg. After witnessing the carry-on down there on Sunday arvo I think you should be careful when talking about "hunting through John's bits" and referring to Scott "squeezing up the back of a car".
Seriously though, good to catch up.
AND........... two day check flight completed. I've escaped Brisbane and as of right now am living back in Sydney.
