Hi: Help a noob. Just bought a new thermostat. Just drop it in, or is there a certain way it has to face? Can't see any markings on it, but there is a tinge of blue paint on the spring thingy underneath. Thanks.

Spring faces down, then gasket on top, then thermostat cover.
Good luck.

Before you drop it in the motor - stick it in a saucepan of hot water and bopil it - make sure it opens and then let it cool and make sure it closes.

Many of the thermostats you buy today are cheap asian ones and they simply dont open and close properly. They distort on the shaft and seize.

You could go further and check the temperature it opens at too - commonly they can be way off.
