I just picked this up for my mini. All I can say is it should be glad I like shiny stuff and that I love it very much!

About a week ago I bought some stainless steel braided 1/4" fuel hose off of spraycanmansam. After seeing how good that looked I bought some 1/2" stuff for the engine breather and after seeing how good that looked I decided to bite the bullet and buy some for the radiator.

Have a guess at how much the stainless braided pipe costs for a radiator (per metre).

Sam did warn me it was expensive but I got a verbal 'I reckon' from the guys and it was more expensive than their verbal quote!. They are good guys though and they ended up charging me their cost + fright which I was happy with.

~$80-120. How'd you go with the fittings?

My car is currently getting the passenger side door correctly fixed so I don't have a really good photo. But I do have these from the David Hack Classic on Sunday:




It will be at least Monday before I can put my new hose on. It will look so good

Fittings wise - I wouldn't even want to look at the prices if that's how much the hose costs. I'm just using hose clamps ATM. I can't find any I really like and I don't want to go with the red and blue speedflow type ones.

$80 - $120 is still short of the mark

The biggest size they normally used (about 5/8 or 3/4" [can't quite remember what they said]) normally went for about $60/m. The smaller stuff is all right - the breather only cost me $20.

The radiator stuff is the largest they make.......(are you ready for it)..........RRP is $190 per metre!

Nice, i love the braid - not sure how you're going to go with fitting it onto the radiator, that stuff doesn't like to bend.

Looks bigger than 1/2" OD Hose to me..

You should get some hose end fittings for your carb to finish it off instead of just the bare hoseclamps.

Thanks for the link Mini Mad - that's the kinda thing I'm after.

The hose is 1 1/8". I'll find a way to get it to fit I'm sure it will involve alot of swearing

I've seen that and know it is heaps cheaper but I reckon it looks like CRAP. It is meant to fit hose of varying sizes sometimes you can see the rubber hose through the braid - very yuckky and makes you look cheap. This stuff is real and looks so much better (because the braid is exactly the right size for the hose)

Real men don't need heaters in their cars If I did have one I would've have done it though. Couldn't go all this way without doing the heater

I didn't pay RRP (I paid cost) but it was still f**king expensive

BAH!! Come down to Canberra and say that. Last winter I was driving a Mini Van as daily transport and not having a heater really, really sucked.

I agree, braid not only looks good it's functional too. The OVER braid stuff looks crap and gets dirt under it and it does SFA. In fact it's probably worse in that you can't see the condition of the hose underneath the braid and the anodised hose clamps on the end are usually faded and or the wrong colour to start with like being pink instead of red.

There is nothing wrong with rubber hose, and braid is probably overkill but at least it actually improves the pressure rating of the hose - choose one or the other. Putting something on that tries to look like something its not just looks cheap.

Glad I'm not the only one that see's value in the proper stuff. I'm not really interested in the elevated bursting pressures - I'm doing this just because it looks good

I've spent so much on the rest of the car why skimp on the braided lines? Doesn't make sense (IMHO).

At least I now know that my fuel / breather lines can go to 6000psi before they burst and 2000psi for the cooling system Good stuff to know for such a moster of a motor like mine........

You thought the hose prices were bad... the fittings will make you cry!

The guy that does all my machining was saying that some of the big fittings are ~$90 EACH IIRC You've been warned





Looks really good though... it's all worth it in the end
