the other nite the family went to an italian restraunt in liverpool and mum knew the owner and got talking. she found out the place has gone broke and the guy wants to sell. that nite mum dreamt of running the place and turning it into a mini style restraunt calling it the italian job-mini pizzas and pastas and having red white and green minis delivering pizzas as well as having mini memorbila and the movie memorbila all over the shop.

i thought it might be a good idea as that the mini club in sydney could hang out along with other mini drivers and car clubs.

just want to know what does anyone else think, at the moment its just a thought but if its deemed to be a good idea it could all well be happening real soon and will be asking for minis to appear at the grand opening.

so what do you think?

What are the copyrights associated with a four decade old movie?

Probably not too bad an idea , especially if you advertise it to all car clubs as well (a lot would be interested in a car themed restaurant even if it isn't their choice of car) . Just remember to check all the licensing requirements from the people who own the rights to the mini name and the Italian Job or it could be expensive in the end .

yeah well thats what i said to her but she even if we dont base it to the movie would it still matter on name rights? and what you mean by mini names exactly? i was thinking that if it does happen could put the mini business names all over the place to help them abit aswell

Basically if you use the name "mini" to imply the car as opposed to something small to promote your business you are using someones copywrited item , same with the movie name/theme . If it was the Italian Mini pizza restaurant and there were no references to the Italian job or mini's anywhere then you'd be right but a heap of mini stuff and a picture of a mini on your advertising would require permission from the copywrite holder .

Most copyright is governed (controlled) until at least 50 years after the death of the original composer/producer.

The mini name and shape is owned by BMW so their head office in Australia would be the one to ask who you need to see , The Italian Job was produced by Paramount Pictures (www.paramount.com) but I'm sure there would be a licencing lawyer in Sydney you could go through to make sure it was all ok . You may have to buy a licence to use the names etc or you might just have to get permission but make sure you check it out first . BMW has closed down several businesses who were trading on the shape/image of the classic mini without being authorised as it is their property .

if its anything to do with cars or the uses their trademarks you need their permission. The outline of the car is their intellectual property.

I am relly into food, more of a passion then mini, so here is me point.

1st, sell mini pizza, not mini shape but quite small, this will gor you around the mini copyrigh issue, if you sell mini pizza, you have the right to call them mini, no copyright issue.

2nd sell good food, number one thing to any good Italian restaurant, i can give you a few good recipe of traditional, but unknowed Italian food to Australian

3rd, make yourself different them any other pizza joint, this is when the mini came into play, but remember, costomer order pizza, and dont wait in the drive way to see the car comming.

Basicaly, go for it but do it right.

****ing wish i had the money to start a restaurant....
