Hello,
On saturday I changed my points dizzy to a lectronic one, got it running first go, after a fiddle with the timing it wasnt to bad, and driving fairly well dispite running a tad rich, I was realy pleased with it. Now today after replacing my oil feed pipe (nothing to do with it) my carb is missing abit about 1/2 revs and farting and so on. I leaned it right out, but its still farting and blowing smoke, not oil smoke but richness sorta smoke, I suspect its the timing more then anything, but any help would be greatly appriciated, its my only car and my closest mini guy probally cant fit me in for about 2 weeks, and I really need her to get to work
Thanks guys
Cheers

I wouldn't go jumping to the conclusion that the carb is the problem if you've only just installed the electronic distributor, even if it did work well to start with, how can you be sure it's working well now?

what process did you use to do your ignition timing when you put the distributor in?

if I was you, I'd put the carb back exactly how it was, and put your old distributor/coil back in to make sure it's not a problem with the new dizzy

yeah I suspect twasnt the carb as much as the dizzy, the main reason I changed the dizzy (well besides having it sitting here because it wasnt put in with the engine transplant...which I wasnt a happy camper..anyway) is it was doin a similar thing before I changed to the leccy one. Then my timing light s**t it self today

I have two coils ive tried, one I bought today a new GT40, and a pretty much brand spanker standard(i think.. they changed it when the engine was put in) the standard is in at again now, as when I connected up the GT40 it seemed to make it worse?? But i did get it better after that so I might try it again connected. The standard one has like a small (looks like a condenser sorta thing) with like an earth wire going to it all coneccted, its not very big, whilst the GT40 is just the one unit.

The choke seal, is that the seal where the shaft enters the body?
Im not to familure with this carb yet sorry, Ive only had it for a month or two
Cheers

wyan i reckon it could be something to do with timing man. if the carby has been overhauled but the problem is still there its something you touched. so possibly the timing maybe. i could never work out my hif carby so i always just left it and it ran fine. richen the mixture again and correct idle speed again and check timing. but its definately a fuel/spark problem. whats the air filter like? and air flow.

where abouts in sydney are you wyan?

ok, I it got it running better, but still not 100%. I richended the mixture quite alot, and advanced the timing I have both a points dizzy, and a standard lucas lectronic one from a late rover (carb), the points are literally 1100kms old, and so is the dizzy, condenser, with a brand new GT40 coil.
It couldnt have been anything I touched i dont think, because the problem was getting worse and worse over the last few weeks, and i hadnt touched a thing. So after a few hours of searching, swaping from both types of dizzys, and adjusting timing/mixture, we put it down to the carby. In the end I went to midel for a quote, and the carb needed an overhaul, fair enough, it had probally been sitting in the UK for a while, The inards of the lectronic one just have the rotor button, then the cap has two screws that hold it on.
I have left the points dizzy on it now as it seems to be better with that one in rather then the lectronic one... Does this help?
Cheers
