Got a dud 1100 at the moment its running on 3 cylinders the back story is in 2004 i started restoring a deluxe with a front end of a mini k (engine electrics etc) the car got on the road september 13th 2006

after driving for several months in November (i think) on schoolies coming back from Lorne i was loosing so much oil into the clutch housing that i could keep any grip on the clutch up hill and therefore engine came out and bearing replaced. made the stupid decision not to regrind the crank and what do you know 6 months later i experienced similiar problems.

After new years this year i had a little over heat with a lying temp guage i drove the boiling thing 100+ ks to a party and found again i had a slight oil leak onto my clutch but continued to drive it, i blamed this new leak on bad cooling which i has since sorted out. In the past few weeks ive found that my tuning is very badly out but with how busy ive been i kept putting it off. that is untill my mate followed me home the other night and told me i was shooting small flames.

i re timed and checked the spark plugs to find that one was black. after checking rockers and adjusting properly and way off to be closed more i found i had 0 compression on cylinder 2. if i put a little oil in the compression jumped to 2 or 3 psi for a second basically bounced the needle.

ive decided to go a 1275 with an sc12 bolt on basically because it sounds solid. the 1275 is out of a morris 1100s and i dropped it down to the local mini mob (not naming business names as im unsure on the rules) anyway after running through the possibilities on this engine the price seemed to be increasing rapidly. the guy there has known me for a while now as ive been a customer for some time and has offered me a deal

Now i have picked up A fully restored MG metro turbo engine already built with gear box all fully reco and lowered compression. he wants to keep the turbo as its not to reliable and i plan to supercharge anyway. so the plan is to talk to dad so i can borrow his ute again, go pick it up and then find out the compression so i can have a talk to ben about a sc12 kit and what compression rates to go for. thats the stories so far ill put some old pics up of the car in the past couple of years and continue with the project. thanks

wrong forum.... should be in mini mods, but $4K for a rebuilt metro turbo motor and gearbox is probably a good deal - you'd be scratching to get it any cheaper than that and if it's already set up for forced induction, then all the better

just make sure the poor thing is tuned properly this time!!!

I HAVE THE ENGINE. it is red so therefore goes faster then the previous yellow variety. picked it up the other week only just getting round to posting pictures will be more frequent on the holidays and ill also show details of the pull down of the 1100 as im curious why she blew. I have also purchased the sc12 and am organising a courier down from the merrylands nsw to melbourne soon. Plus to make my week even better Ben just informed me a few days ago that he has finished my supercharger kit. now i just need to wait for the holidays for the time to get into it.

My MG metro turbo A+ series engine

couple of questions for the experienced or knowledgable if u could help me out. im going to be running a 1 3/4 Su what needles and spring will i need to run with this? where should my timing be set? what spark plug gap should i be running with electronic ignition and gt40 coil? ive heard sc12 can be switched on and off will this not stuff my tuning and be pointless for fuel saving? any help would be great

yes it can be turned on and off, but theres no point as you will not want to drive with it off :D

you will probably use less gas with it on also, mine is pretty good on gas and i have driven sort distances with the charger off but its got no guts and feels like its struggling.... so just leave it engaged

my needle was a custom by my tuner so i cant help you there sorry, and your timing should be set on a dyno (with your carb also) i thought i had it running good at home till i got mine set up properly... i was wrong

also you will have to cut that breather off the timing chain cover and get it welded up as its in the way for the charger belt

no, you mean you're going to be spending a fair bit of money getting someone to make it run right ;)

Yeah thats more precise cant wait to get it right tho. ill need to look into dyno places that know about Su's i guess and then getting correct springs and needles from there.

you might want to talk to Link - play down the fact that you didn't buy their supercharger kit, but they might be able to suggest a tuner who knows their stuff with SU's.

Obviously asking everyone who has a kit already what they are using and how it's set up is going to be your best starting point. Spaceboy is running a 1380 with the same blower, so if his is running right, then copying his settings will get you close, and fine tune from there
