If the engine's going to be built by guys into mini racing, won't they have the knowledge and contacts to sort you out?

Anyway, Keith Calver's Mini Expert magazine is a good read (Buy from here), with articles on getting the best from 998, 1100 and 1275 engines - very good results from the 1100, so I may tune my wife's Clubman Estate without telling her...

Also I've enjoyed the DVD "Ultimate Mini - Building a 100bhp 1380cc A Series" - Bill Sollis builds a metro engine up, and covers a lot of the tricks to making it reliable. Available from Pitshop Bookshop in Perth. The odd thing about the whole build is he never mentions the carb or exhaust but I believe the carb is an HIF44 and the exhaust is your standard LCB.

I personally would optimise steering and stopping first, as I think the fun of a mini is all in mid corner speed, not straight line. And don't forget if you shorten braking distances, you increase overall speed.
Also the right suspension and braking mods will still be relevant with almost any future engine mods.

Excellent advice, just too sensible for most on here
Plus it wouldn't make it fully sik. :D

ok quite a lot of advice here :) thank you all for it.

Looks like I'll get a 1330 , LCB, RE13 cam, prob some 1.5 rockers to go, disc brakes. will be rebuilding gearbox too. Suspension wise not sure what I'll go with at the moment.

Been busy working on preparing the body, getting rid of all the rust; never imagined it would be such a draining job.

haha well I've only had mine for not even a week lol 1 week as of tomorrow lol - hope to have all rust gone with another 2 more weeks - hoping to not turn this project into another one of those '2 year jobs' I read on these forums. Hope to have the mini ready to go within 3 months.

The reason people's projects are '2 year jobs' is because that's how long these things take (or 4 years or even 19 haha). However, good luck to you - we'll expect a report back on the 22nd August then

And always remember the old saying - opinions are like A**holes, everyone has one and they all stink. (that's just my 2c worth...)

well engine is out front subframe is off, most of the interior is gone. bit of rust to get off on the front half of the car still. yeh 3 months was a bit optimistic lol. Starting new job so won't have weekends to work on it anymore - only have about 6 hours a week for the car now :/ may have to extend that deadline to Nov sometime lol.

Still contemplating what to do engine wise, but for now my dilema is color scheme...

100% want a white roof

Do I go all white, black flares and 2 black lines on the bonnet?
White roof, blue body and white flares?
White roof, bright green body, white flares?

Everytime I see someone elses mini I want their colors lol but then again who wants something like looks like everyone elses.. Must think of something completely original.

A White Brick looks excellent IMHO, especially with a red interior. For something a bit different, Go Gloss Black instead of all the chrome work. I saw one yrs ago and it stood out.
