well it never ends, today the guy came around to fix the carbies. turned out to be a stuck throttle linkage and the carby on the passenger side is fine. the problem is with the motor.

he did a compression test and told me that 1 and 2 are down and that 3 and 4 are fouled with oil :( . not sure why the compression is down but gots a feeling its to do with the head. the oil smells like fuel and the head dont think has never been serviced. so for $875 from mini king i am gonna get the head converted to unleaded and modded up. question is am i better of doing it to the 1100 head thats on it now or another head for better performance?

The only smallbore head that's better than your 1100 (12G202) one is a 12G295.
If you are working the head over, spending that sort of money, it should outflow a 295 head when finished.
GR works over 202 heads these days for his race motors, he reckons they mod better than 295 ones as you can get better port shapes.

Sorry for the slow post but I haven't been able to log in (but can now).

I'm running twin 1 1/4s on my 1100, and am using "M" needles. As everyone has said, every carby/engine combo is different. If it works with the "GY" needles you now have that's great.

Hope you sort out all of your other issues soon too.

Dicko

I did a 12g202 up.

did not convert it to unleaded though.
It cost me about $450 to get it crack tested, faced, bore the valve throats, and then a the valve seats cut. The valve guides closed up a little on me so they touched em up too.

I bullet nosed and pressed my own valve guides and did about 40 hours of porting with a die grinder.

I used 1100s valves too. All up twas about $600.

I ran into compression problems. If I did it again I would use a big bore head and pocket the block.

hanra i never really got a chance to take a look at the car during the week, been really busy with work. come home and just couldnt be bother looking at my own problems. besides he came out and did me a favor, if he didnt come out i probably would never had realised the head needs doing. never got around to doing things like compression tests and all that. after work on saturday you really couldnt be bothered working on your own car.

i can understand what you are on about there tiny.... sometimes you do need a break from cars if you work on them all day, everyday....

how do you know its the head?
Have you checked the rocker clearances are correct? if not do this and check the comp then.
It could be the bores, rings or even the head gasket giving it lower than normal comp.

if the throttle linkage was stuck, why was it stuck?
werent they just reco-ed by this mob?
do you know if they adjusted them correctly, they maybe running to rich and washing the bores, therefore the oil will smell like fuel.
Reccommend getting it checked out by someone who knows what they are on about and who will explain how and why so you can learn the right way .....old school where you actually have to work out the problem without being told by a pcm/ecu etc once you have plugged in your diagnosis tool.
