Well it worked - removed the detent plugs and springs (couldn't get the plungers but the rods were moving freely) 3 Hits with BFH (and a bit of wood) and the 1st motion bearing and shaft popped out
Cleaned it up and got rid of the brass filings PUT THE ROLLER BEARING on the 3rd motion nose and put it all back together. (easier 2nd time around)
Got the CPU and the laygear in - gave up trying to get the 3rd motion bearing retainer sorted and decided to call it a night.
Why would the detent bolts have two copper washers under each head? Figure it would relieve the spring tension but is it standard practice?
