Been stuffing around with Ash's brakes for a few hours the past few days. I have never stuffed around with brakes before (I don't want to mess with people's lives) but I must say I am quite pleased with my ability to learn quickly.

I replaced a leaky wheel cylinder, blead the brakes and adjusted all the drums. I have it on hot authority from Ash that this is the "best he's ever stopped". So I am pleased The only problem that arose was caused by the PO; the shoe adjusters on the front drum were round

Good to hear it worked well , it's the way to do it , take your time and do little jobs first so you understand it fully before tackling a full brake overhaul . Well done Nick .

I ended up going out and doing some emergency stops quite easily, so I have no problem knowing that they are working correctly. At least it has a very good handbrake in it

Niced one Nick and its amazinging what good brakes feel like

Just remember to check the back also and where adust accordingly
when the pedle goes soft with disk'a on the front it normal the back need adjusting

Just a tip for mini's with drum brakes.
When 1 wheel cylinder is leaking then you will probably find all cylinders are about to leak.
I have found that I need to replace all front wheel cyliders at the same time, and at approx $16.00 each this is not a great cost, and the positive is you should then have great brakes for another 12 - 18 months. Well great brakes for drum brakes.
After completing a few brake cylinder replacements I can now swap all 4 cylinders and re-bleed the brakes in about 90 minutes.

Hey Nick, Well done!! Brakes are one of those things that are a simple principle, not too bad to work on if you take your time and double check all is as it should be, but can kill you if you get it wrong!

It's a good feeling to redo the brakes, and then have a car that actually stops!!

I may be paranoid, but one reason I do most of the work on my own vehicles is so I know it is all done right, down to the last nut and bolt!!

I would have replaced them but my local parts guy is currently out of stock of wheel cylinders (we got the last one). I did tell Ash the same thing. It will be a job for next time.

How old are the brake hoses? If you don't know you probably should change them.
How old is the mastercylinder?

Dunno on both counts, but if Ash buys me the parts I will fit them
