Uniroyals - hahaha

One of the mini places in Perth had a stack of them imported a while back. They were going cheaply too - I think about $60ea from memory.

I bought 4 as a start out tyre for a resto and they weren't bad - although I wasn't looking for any great performance out of them, just daily driving.

I have two fitted to some chromies (and thinking of selling) unless you need a full set.

They are still in stock according to the website. Contact BS and they will come.

Of course, if you are looking for a bit of history with your tyres rather than simply modern performance then Dunlop Aquajets are still being produced and sold here in Victoria at Antique Tyres (http://www.antiquetyres.com.au/dunlop.html).
And yes, I know, I know, there will lots of responses to this saying how crappy the Aquajets are from a handling point of view but they were fitted to Police Minis as part of SPO 41 and my ex-NSW Police Cooper S is going to wear them whether others think they are good, or not.
Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest in a pair of Nike's just doesn't seem right!

Thanks from one of Dunlops none-friends...these tyres are required for a daily runner, not a trailer/show queen where it might be nice to indulge yourself :D

yes you can. and like i said most tyre places will sell them. kmart tyre and auto dont stock them, but will supplie them. im getting a few a008s for myself and one other member at the end of the month with the ship comes in from overseas. pretty good price considering what they told them what they are retailing for

I envy you being able to enjoy the thrill of throwing this fantastic car around and knowing it'll generally end up where you expect it to go. I did it back in the sixties and seventies when 0.05 was unheard of. A Cooper S on a dirt road in a State forest at 2 am on a Sunday morning beats most things I've experienced to date.
Please don't fit Aquajets. My car's Aquajets will feel the road on the occasional weekend and perhaps going to Shows. A bit like Grandma's stockings - they don't look the best but at least they're authentic!!

Gday Ian,
I got 4 bridgestones about 6 months ago from JAX Quickfit in Belconnen. They are pretty good there and they can do wheel alignments on the 10 inch wheels as well.
Steve.

was there not a situation when the highway patrol cops refused to drive the cars unless the Aquajets were replaced with a better tyre?

:D

Simon,
I don't know whether they refused to drive them but BLMC Service Letter 4/71 dated November 1971 relating to the Clubman GT Police specification contained the following narrative:
"Tyres - Goodyear Sports Radials. It has been reported that handling problems have occurred with Dunlop Aquajets which were previously used on Police Cooper S vehicles."

An earlier SPO for the MK 1 Cooper S Police specification listed Olympic GT Radial Ply Tyres.

The good old Olympic GT radials on a Mini used to kill the Aquajets for handling. 8)
