Hey all....

miko here, in sydney.
after 9 months of research and drooling, i've accepted the fact that i won't register a rear R1 engined mini here in sydney. :(

although now that i've moved on, i'm now in the process of very very very shortly taking ownership of a new custom 66.....

details will be posted, and questions will be asked.

I wouldn't accept defeat just yet... there's a select few on here who are pushing hard to get approval 8)

....ah yes spraycanmansam, i have been following all info being posted on here regarding the old bike engined mini debate, as well as keeping myself on just what the pom's are continuously up to!?

And i still hold hope that someone somewhere will set the precident, alas i don't think it'll happen here in NSW. The laws and regulations are lame and impossible.....and i dont have the millions necessary.

So as for the car itself.... its currently sitting in a workshop.
A stripped and primed bare shell - waiting for my inspiration and wallet to open up!

Not to many details yet, but i will keep you guys updated soon.

Cheers

If it can be done in QLD, it can be done anywhere! :P

You could always whack a car engine in the back  I know I'm biased, but I think I will prefer the torque of a bigger engine, than a screamer motorbike engine... for the road anyway  A 6-speed sequential gearbox would be nice though... :(

...six speed sequential, screaming along at over 10,000rpm, the noise!, exhaust poking out the rear bootlid, and the minimal yet mean looking motorbike instrumentation..... 8) mmmmm

plus i seen guys driving the rear wheels yet mounting the engine up front.....

ahh so many choices

it may not happen to this one, but it will happen.....

When I was doing my Apprenticeship in Melb and attending Richmond TAFE once a week, there was a guy that had a Honda N360 with a CBX1300 motor in the back chain drive to a solid rear axle  And yes it had the 2 exhausts off the bike sticking out under the boot. :D

That would've been in the early 80's, so similar things have been done before.

Dicko.

I know of a Ford Capri V6 powered rear wheel drive mini that was legally registered and on the road in NSW in the mid 70's as well but you'd never do that now either . Must be some way of doing it legally now though , someones just got to find it .

Whats the deal with front engined motorbike engines? There are currently 2 kits in the UK, one which is chain driven and another with a custom transfer box. Are you allowed to do front engine fwd conversions?

The problem here is, bikes don't comply with the ADRs for emissions that cars do.
In theory you `could' get one to pass but it would cost squillions for compliance testing.

dr mini has it in one...
after exhaustingly researching and asking questions, it is clear to me that although technically possible (as we've seen) - legally here in nsw, its rather unlikely (and i didn't win powerball, so i aint going to give it a crack just yet)

As far as other states go, i believe things can be a little bit easier in regards to legality and what not....

so all you guys north and south of red tape south wales, get crackin.
Cause once someone sets a precedent, things may get a lot easier for the rest of us...
or i'll just flying down to south australia and buy one there.....

Yes i looking at you archangel :P

For now i let my dream rest.
My 66 looks like it'll a have clean original interior,
competent dry set-up, front discs and a mild 1275.
plenty enough to make me smile......
for now?!?

How would you go about trying to get a bike engined mini registered? Surely you could just say to test it against the stricter of the two emissions tests, either bike or car?

The only way to register a Mini with a bike engine is to remove two wheels.... 8)
