Anyone know the colour or paint code for the dark green of a MK 1 S. Can get a premix of acrylic but want to have it made in air-dry enamel.

If you are after the UK dark green colour, according to a book I have here, the closest match is "Land Rover M10 Bronze Green", if that is any help.

In the early part of last century Britain developed a series of standard colours. I expect it was so that things didn't get to garish and imaginative. Paint colour charts must have been boring...

Anyway, lots of miscellaneous bits, like fans and engines and a lot of industrial stuff is painted in a british standard colour. I believe land rovers were originally all painted in BS colours. The engine colour used by BMC in the UK is apparently BS 223 Middle Bronze Green. No doubt thats the same colour that Land Rovers used.

There's a good chance that paint suppliers can still mix it.

Thanks for that chart Timbo - My first job was with Glaxo and all equipment 'had' to be painted "Glaxo Green" (Sea Green on your Chart) I bought a new ampoule filling machine - it was all stainless steel and I had a standup verbal fight with the maintenance foreman when he was going to have it painted green. I won in the end on the basis it was going into a Sterile Production Area.

I wonder if the colour of the Cooper engines came off this chart?

Pity it's not bigger and clearer in the print

The most commonly used colour on British BMC engines was British Standard Middle Bronze Green (BS 223).

So Cooper engines - No 16 Eau de Nil or No 19 Sage Green?

the best match out of a commercial can apparently is white knight alpine green

Mini Spares Australia sell it in a can, and Dr Mini brushed it on and said it worked well

Well now that depends whether it is an English or Australian Cooper S.

But yes, White Knight Alpine green is great, I have just painted my engine with it and it looks superb.

Alpine Green is not the Dark Green that early engines were painted - don't know about early MK1 S but the man did say 'Dark Green'
