Early 850's powerplants were Dark Green . When the Aussie content came in , ( ie : bootlid with shorter number plate flap , 8YUH engine number etc .) , they were painted same green as later Cooper S motors , I think in late 1964 or early 1965 sometime

no, they weren't... they were painted a metallic beige, not green

I took an original rocker cover in to Qld Paint Supplies at Rocklea to get them to mix up a tin of engine enamel. They matched it perfectly but didn't put the code on the tin except to say it is BMC, MG engine enamel. The colour you are after was certainly in use in 1965 on our Mini Deluxe. If I have the time, I might swing by with the Cooper in a couple of weeks to show you the results.

The last of the 850's were same green as Cooper S , when the the deluxes came out in 1965 they were painted metallic beige , possibly though some early deluxes got the green as well , as I have seen a few 1965 deluxes with the green powerplant , and my 1966 Mini Minor has its original powerplant which is green also , but they probably continued the colour with the minor , as its an 850 ( who knows with BMC )

In case it's of interest Mini King (John S) has the MK II S engine green enamel in small cans. I haven't rebuilt my engine yet so can't show you the actual colour.

This came from Mini Car Clinic (Padstow) when John was there, it would be the same stuff- MIN346.

This one is close to the right colour , an original Mk1 S , its not been re-painted , although its faded over the years with the engine heat , it should be slightly darker ..........

AJ, my mate has a 1971 S, and the original Mk2 engine is that colour too.
It seems more metallic than the currently available paints.

I agree Sherwood Green might be a close match (I owned a mighty Chrysler VK Regal that colour... :P )

I took a piece of my motor in to a paint shop to match the colour and they had difficulty as the metalic content mucks up the reading due to the reflections. Got a tin made up but was comparing it to Alpine Green and wasn't happy - maybe I need to did it out and take another look at it :?

I have been looking into the gold/bronze that was used on the Deluxe, K, Morris 1100, etc.
I think I may have found a name for it, could it be the Classic Gold Metallic in this chart?

Here is a photo of the starter off my 1100. (Don't you love the attention to detail that BMC was famous for?)

This is the rocker cover on my 1100 Automatic. Look carefully and you can see the British green poking through where the Aussie Gold has been scratched off.
