I'm adding a VH44 booster to my brake system. Should I hook it up to the 3-way so it feeds the rear wheels as well as the front or after the 3-way so it feeds the front wheels only?

Assuming you have single circuit brakes, hook it up between the brake master cylinder and the 3 way union. This is how they were fitted standard and works fine (bear in mind, the pressure limiting valve on the back will still do its job - so the brake bias front to rear will remain the same).

I agree, but on cars with a tandem brake MC it still works OK on front only.

Assuming that the MC is not leaking back.

The rear brakes on a Mini control the built in "anti-dive" in the rear suspension.

Good rear brakes on a Mini are a liability at 110KMH in the wet with decent front discs... once you nail the pedal hard the limit valve will lock the rear line anyway. Assuming it still works..

What size booster should be used? I will be running metro 4 spots, on a previous mini i had i was running 7.5" dics on the front and was also running a VH44 but only on the fronts. Any problem with bumping it up a little to a VH40?

You wont need it Gordo.

Boosters dont make the brakes work any more efficiently, they just reduce the pedal effort required to produce large braking forces.

VH44 should just fine.

Change the rear wheel cylinders to 5/8" ala Cooper S and make the rear limiting valve adjustable (easily done). No more rear lockups.

Yep I did that, after `the event', my point here was that as you say, stock 3/4" rear cylinders (and thus good rear brakes) are bad news with S front discs, in an emergency.
I don't see why it would be any different with 8.4 discs either, unless they work worse than 7.5s do.

How To: Make the Brake Pressure Limiting Valve Fully Adjustable

http://hometown.aol.com/dvandrews/bpvalve.htm

That gives me yet another little project to do.
