Yea, its metal to metal aswell. Does it matter wheres its put? Mine is above the clutch housing and the drivers side guard.
It does not matter where it is as long as it works.

Have a look at the fuses in the car, most of them are ancient and are in poor condition, the two that were in my car gave me some intermittent problems with lights etc.

Have a look it can't hurt.

i'd say you need a new battery, even a rooted battery will read 12V with no load.

buy something with enough cold cranking amps for a mini, not one of those cheap crap no name batteries.

If all the lights etc went out suddenly when you did this, you have a bad connection- check battery terminals, the earth connection onto the boot floor.

99% of the time it's a battery to cable connection. I dunk the end of each cable into a tin of boiling water, that gets all the salts and corrosion off.
Put some petroleum jelly (vaseline) on the battery posts and cable lugs after you have got it sorted.

Ok got the electrical problems fixed, cleaned all the earths and charged the battery. However its still not starting, it cranks over fine and occasionally starts for about 2 seconds then dies.

I have spark at all leads and its pumping fuel so i don't think thats the problem. The fuel bowl was also full of petrol. Battery also died again so its on charge again

I got a mechanic coming down tomorrow, hopefully he can fix the problem. Any ideas on what it could be?

Cheers

Does the key wobble in your ign switch ? Also check the crimp on connectors on the starter solenoid .

  Car still isnt starting. Battery is charged and even when jump starting with another car it starts and dies in about 2 seconds. Im running out of ideas on what could be the problem. I got a new carby from mini king and still didnt help, maybe it needs to be tuned for it to be running properly? Or could the timing be out?

Any ideas? Anyone in SW sydney that could come down and get this thing started?

Cheers

Recently had problems with my dizzy and have been told there was a bad batch of condensors. Could be worth a shot???

Mind you i'm still learning to work on them myself! I've gone electirc since then though.
