What about painting it the body colour and then having the southern cross stars in silver across the top, and then a THIN stripe of silver down both sides

You have silver wheels dont you... would be very blended in IMO

I painted the roof of my van silver today, masked over my racing stripes, but the silver came up all powdery, and the masking tape wrecked my stripes.... not happy - I'll have to rub it all back and start again I think.... :( :(

Did you use low tack masking tape?
Personally i would paint the whole roof silver then do you stripes again after tha paint has had a few days to harden.

used the cheapest tape they had at mitre 10... I reckon you're right, I'll do the whole roof silver & then the stripes again - if you see my van you'd know I don't really give a stuff how good it looks, but still....

When I did mine, I firstly primed the whole thing, then did the stripes, masked the stripes with low tack tape and masking tape, then did the car colour, removed the tape, and sprayed the car with clear acrylic.

That is a good method with a quick sand with 2000 wet & dry between colour and clear will make for no ridges from the masking making for a very smooth finish wery 8)

Can you paint that clear acrylic on faded paint..? Mo's roof is fine, but every other panel looks like its been painted with interior house paint and is faded like buggery..!!!!

Have you tried using a cut & polish yet? if not give it a go on a small bit and see if it comes up if it does go over thw whole car and put some good polish on it
