Wandering around the swap meet at Coff's this morning (well advertised , a banner went up at 5 pm yesterday for it :? ) and found these steering wheels at seperate stalls . Ignore the 11" one , it's for the fang , I need a small one for it to have enough clearance at the sides . I was wondering if anyone know's who made the one with the squarer cutouts instead of the normal round cutouts . It was in a $2 bargain bin and mainly bought for the boss which is the same as a Leyland wheel I have (Moke I think) so was wondering if anyone know's the story behind the square cutouts on the spokes ? The leather's been removed but will recover well and look good and was too good to walk past for the price

Are you sure it's not a home made one or some workshop low volume item :?: :?

No idea really , it looks factory , the boss is the same as a Leyland one and I have some vague memory of them being made specially for something or someone but have no idea what .

Wasn't that the Springalex brand from the 70s?

The square hole for the boss makes it look very much like a 'Formula' brand steering wheel. The same brand was used in the LSs and Californian Mokes. Some of the Springalex wheels had a square centre too, and they were big on square cut-outs in the spokes.
