These seem almost mythological to me. Is there a resident expert in the room? I have no idea how many 'real' NSW Police Coopers there were, but there seems a disproportionate amount of them surviving. If they were a cop car, surely there would be telltale signs of where wiring for police lights, radios etc. were mounted. How in the heck do you pick a real one? What years did the coppers use 'em? Is there a definitive list of mods that were made to them over the base Cooper S?

No not mythological...there were heaps of them all over the state...The Mini Experience magazine has done a feature on them and there are several threads on here about what to look for...maybe use the search button

you're in for a thorough information overload.... there was a feature on them in "the mini experience"

statistically, 1 in 7 Cooper S's were cop cars (~1000 of them), so they aren't all that rare, though a lot were crashed, several turned into mini K's etc. etc.

I have the dvd's of the mini experience. Time for some research!

Seems a heck of a percentage that were cop cars tho.

Thx for the replies guys; appreciated.

Hey Bamnfi - I used to own the Pharmacy on the corner of St Georges Rd and Holden St 30 years ago - the bloke I sold it to is still there !

Hiya Wombat. I'm not far from there. I am in McKean Street off Michael.

Save you a bit of a search, the feature in The Mini Experience is in Issue 11, p45 onwards.

And yes, it was over 1,000 - around 1 in 7 Cooper S.

I would love to find some confirmation for the actual numbers of Clubman GTs thouygh.

Cheers,
Watto.

hey frednutz, how bent? When my current money pit is finished I am looking for a new project. I think mini's are like pets; only having one is no good, they need a companion

Well, I guess you didn't see Issue 11 of The Mini Experience, where we tore that old myth apart.

Who would know? Well, we would - at least as accurately as can be deduced from the available evidence.

Check this out (and thanks to Kyoda on here for sending it to me for the feature).

On top of that, I spent hundreds of hours going through NSW Police annual reports, records, libraries, photos, speaking with ex-police who drove the cars. But the Leyland press release is the best proof.

Note: the figure of "over 11,000" refers to Cooper and Cooper S. There were of course only 7,405 Cooper S built.

Cheers,
Watto.
