Yeah Ben, easily. I was pretty lucky with this one... very lucky actually.

One of my colleagues was in the car with me, he went back into the office and within 10mins I had a bunch of the guys SMS'ing me with "HAHAHAHAHA' and then coming for a look... was all good though.

I just had a look on Google Street View from the top gate to check if you can see just how steep that hill is (not dissimilar from the start of Conrod Straight), and there are two poor suckers trying to badge out of the boom gates. :) I will leave it to you if want to post the street name, top gate is outside #90 on the street.

Everyone with 30-40 year old wheel studs and nuts should be thinking about investing in some new hardware. They don't last forever :shock:

PS if you don't feel confident drifting the old studs out and carefully inserting replacements...then don't! take the car to someone who knows what they are doing :idea:

Doz..why were you warned? Were the studs non-standard?

I was warned not to use std wheels, the steel Mini ones (not 'S'). This was either cause the rims would fail or the studs shear....I had a reasonably powerful 1310 at the time.

I've run Contessas like Pete's for years on my 1310/1360 with new S studs front and back and never had a problem. The Contessa nuts are a sleeve type and have decent thread engagement.
More than I can say for Superlights... they are short and strip real easy.:!:

Wow,

That's what I call a disc grind!

Very scary - was doing about 80mph in my Cooper S years ago down to Brooklyn Bridge on Sydney - Newcastle Freeway and heard a loud metallic banging from the front right wheel - stopped the car - looked ok - wheel on tight - took off the hubcap, and had sheared one of the wheel bolts off!

Didn't work out why till the guys at the garage re-filled the suspension fluid - I had been driving it on the bump-stop runners for months! Gee it handled well though!

Check your wheel nuts and your suspension!!!!!!!!!!!!!
