Been meaning to put these up for a while now.
So here it is





Look at how flat that torque line is. I can hardly call it a curve. Makes it so easy to drive. When i missed second in the hairpins a few times at Wakefield, I simply stuck in third and let the torque pull me out

There is a bit more to be had with a decent set of 1.5:1 rockers, but that can wait.

Mick, I think you have the last of his 282 cams (which Graham used to say is worth 10HP over an RE13, any day of the week), but what carb are you running?

Here's my 1412 with RE13 for comparison, the head was done by me and flowed 116CFM, rockers are Toyota Corolla, 1.46:1.
I'm going to run the HS6 SU, the torque curve is much fatter- but note we didn't rejet the 45 Dellorto shown, just borrowed it from my 1360, Ramflo/Unifilter and all..

45DCOE weber rejetted by Graham. Biggest difference would be the rockers. I am running some pressed steel ones from a 998, with a weld along the top to make sure the pads don't get shaken out. willy's one is the same as mine but with 1.5: rockers. he got 10hp, but it is a bit higher up the rev range. i could also cut the firewall and put a longer manifold on, but i don't want to make too many non-original holes.

I think one of the keys to this motor is that the inlet is 36mm all the way from the weber chokes to the inlet valves. once the inlet charge gets moving there are no diameter changes to slow it down and it has the momentum to just keep on moving.

Hi, how is this cam in terms of rev range and driveability ? Would it be suitable for a hot road going 1360 , or not much torque low down ?

It would be very worthwhile but unfortunately they are no longer available, hence why Mick got one of the last ones. The original master used for grinding cams from, was lost from what I understand, and Graham is not planning on replacing it due to excessive cost.

So no one will ever be able to get a 282 again, no matter how good they were.

As KB said the RE282 cam is now NLA, but I also have one in my 1360, with MSC 1.5 forged rockers. Carb is a 45DHLA Dellorto with 38mm chokes, manifold is a big ported redline 3005.
In this motor it gets on cam about 2700 rpm and is really strong by 4000, however at 5000 you get a big kick in the back and it goes even harder to 7500+. It has seen 8000 but I try not to let it.
So far, the Mk1 S EN40B crank is still in one piece...


note- it will tootle about OK below 2000 rpm, but there's not much oomph there...

that's a pitty no more 282 available, anyway it should be better to stick with the more 'mild' RE13, i will use std A+ crank and rods so it's better not to have too much revs on it.

I think willy's was the last one. He built his after mine, but with teh 1.5:1 rockers.

So I know Kev's, willy's, mine and Jai over in NZ got one as well. Anyone else get one?

Mick I think that was it. Jai's 282 cam got trashed when somebody blew the motor, it's not good enough to grind a master from. Mine has quite a lot of road miles on it now so it's no good for that either, if I was to pull it apart.
The cam master on Graham's grinder is at a 5:1 size ratio, any errors (like from wear) on a cam lobe profile get magnified if you make a master this way.
Generating another master for it in the US from lift figures like last time- the cost now is prohibitive he says, so it won't happen.

Note that Graham has done more work lately on the RE13 profile, if you want more top end from it he can oblige- so talk to him.
