That looks about the same as the one in Neil Masons old sports sedan but then the whole car looked a bit like that except the outside panels

It definitely wouldn't be as rigid as a std frame but I reckon it would still be strong. But for 8.5kg I'd say make a space frame.

Just lighten the driver!!

So, no need to drill those holes.

The driver/buyer can just go on diet to lose that 8.5kg, save all trouble and money ($ to buy it and $ to buy food).

Neil mason was in my class all the way through school - he is a farmer in northern NSW now. Losing 8.5 kg wouldn't made a great difference to Neil. He was heavy framed to begin with.

I would presume that a lightened subbie like that was also fully seam welded and gussetted appropriately.

Is that Ampol Garage - Neil Mason? or was that another Mason.

Ampol garage in Hawkesbury Rd was Barry Mason.

No, Neil Mason was for many years a front running sports sedan driver-constructor in a mini and I think he co-drove the very last mini to race at Bathurst in the big one.

I will send you an email some time today KB and some photos

Mike
